DC ACM Fall Event Series: Cloud Computing, Is it really new?

Lecture Abstract

Cloud computing is the latest buzz word to hit the IT circuit, but is this anything new?  While cloud is not right for everything, it does provide new models for IT delivery and consumption. In this presentation Mr. Jackson will present the case for cloud computing from an operational and business point of view.  After that, he'll leave the audience up to decide if it's new or not.

About the Speaker

Mr. Kevin Jackson is currently Director, Cloud Services at NJVC, one of the largest information technology solutions providers supporting the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Prior to this position, he served in various senior management positions including VP, Dataline LLC, Director Federal for Sirius Computer Solutions and Worldwide Sales Executive for IBM. His formal education includes MSEE (Computer Engineering), MA National Security & Strategic Studies and a BS Aerospace Engineering. Mr. Jackson retired from the US Navy earning specialties in Space Systems Engineering, Airborne Logistics and Airborne Command and Control. He also served with the National Reconnaissance Office, Operational Support Office, providing tactical support to Navy and Marine Corps forces worldwide. Kevin Jackson is the founder and author of Cloud Musings (http://kevinljackson.blogspot.com), a widely followed blog that focuses on the use of cloud computing by the Federal government. He is also the editor and founder of Government Cloud Computing electronic magazine (http://govcloud.ulitzer.com).

Limited refreshments will be provided and will be available at 7:00 pm.  The lecture will begin at 7:30 pm. Questions for the speaker are encouraged, but we will have a hard stop at 9:00 pm.

Directions

The AAAS Building is located on the corner of 12th and H Street.  Limited metered street parking is available.  There are also several parking garages in the area.

If you are traveling via Metro,take the Red Line to the Metro Center station. Exit the Metro station using the 12th and G Street exit. At the top of the escalator, turn 180 degrees and walk one block north on 12th Street. AAAS is at the corner of 12th and H Streets.
